Prior to this elective exercise was a word of welcome from the Congress Chairperson followed by a talk on the relevance of DJOTA by Professor Nfi Joseph Lon.

Other very important activities that took place were discussions centered around the adoption of a constitution for DJOTA. This exercise which involved perusing through a Draft Constitution and doing the necessary adjustments to come out with an adoptable constitution was coordinated by Mr. Ngoran George Njong.

Amongst many other issues that were deliberated upon, it was agreed that the Motto of the association would be “Empowering the teacher for Holistic Education and Socio-economic Development.”

Another important decision arrived at during the deliberations on the draft constitution was that of a Share Scheme. The amount agreed to be paid in for shares was fixed at 100.000 Frs CFA. This entails the buying of shares to which annual interests will accrue. Apart from this, it was agreed that there shall be an Aid Fund of 10.000 FCFA and  Registrations Fee of 5000 Frs CFA.

This reporter caught up with the maiden National President of DJOTA, Professor Nfi Joseph Lon and he summed up the event in the following words:

“DJOTA is a new association set up by teachers of Djottin origin with the single objective of improving upon their welfare irrespective of where they find themselves in the Republic of Cameroon. Permit me take you back to 2017 when the idea first came up. We thought that teachers for a long time had been marginalised and downgraded.  We thought it wise to create an association that could enable us pull our resources together and work as each other’s keeper.

We developed, drafted and adopted a constitution that permits us to pull these resources together.

We agreed that if you want to belong to this group you must pay an affiliation fee of 5000 Frs. We are thinking about being each other's keeper so there is a solidarity or an Aid Fund of about 10.000 Frs. Then there’s this huge Financial Scheme which involves an annual subscription which permits us to address our problems either individually or collectively.

Essentially as seen in the motto, we are talking about teachers' solidarity, about empowering the teacher with the objective of promoting education. Once a teacher is empowered, he can be a better agent of education and a better agent for Socio-economic Development.

We plan to trace our brothers in Littoral, Center, Southwest, South, West, Far North and wherever they find themselves and make them come together so as to understand the reason why we were here today.”

The Deputy National President, Dr. Ndyun Aloysius Mbuh on his part emphasized that there was a strong need for Djottin teachers to be empowered financially. With the necessary funds teachers could venture into projects like the creation of an educational establishment. This he said would help the teachers in their efforts to educate.

Participants came in from Yaounde, Bafoussam, Limbe, Kumbo, Douala and Bamenda.
