Cooperative Credit Unions in Noni
The Djottin Cooperative Credit Union, Operating Since 1969!
The Djottin Cooperative Credit Union DJOCCUL opened its
doors to customers in 1969. This makes it the oldest Cooperative Credit Union
in Noni. According to Dr. Ndyun Aloysius Mbuh, Vice President of the Financial
Institution, “since its creation, DJOCCUL has continuously recorded a series of
successes. Despite the many challenges, it has been growing and the Djottin
branch presently has 1.675 members. The Yaounde branch has 231, Douala 122 and
Bamenda 123.”

Dr. Ndyun disclosed that the Bamenda Branch has savings of 31 millions Frs CFA. Douala on its part has 37 millions in the form of savings while Yaounde has 74 millions. The mother office in Djottin has savings of 88 millions FCFA. This gives a total of 232 millions.
The decision to spread the tentacles of DJOCCUL out of
Djottin was arrived at three years ago. The first branch to be opened out of
Djottin was in Bamenda. After Bamenda, the next branch was opened in Yaounde
followed by the Douala branch. DJOCCUL as such presently has branches in
Bamenda at Foncha Junction, in Douala at Grand Hangar and in Yaounde besides
Amour Mezam at Carrefour Biyemassi.
Dr. Ndyun Aloysius
describes the growth of DJOCCUL in glowing terms. Hear him;
“DJOCCUL has been growing in leaps and bounds. We offer a
series of services. These include Savings, Deposits, loans at interests rates
of 2.5%. The more you loan at DJOCCUL, the more the interest rates drop. Other
services offered include; Njangi Financing, Mobile Money Services and Insurance
Schemes.
“In the years ahead we plan to double this amount so that in
2025, we should have savings of about 600 millions. We are also looking for
means to bring in more human resources with an intention of improving the
quality of our services. We are proud of the Djottin Community in the Diaspora.
They have been so supportive and make up part of this success story. The
Djottin people should come in and be part of this success story.”
Dr. Ndyun further urged the Djottin people to step into the
success story of DJOCCUL in order to prevent the initiative from being hijacked
by people who aren’t from Noni.
A cross section of ethnic groups in the North West Region have shown great interest in the Djottin Cooperative Credit Union and according to him, if Djottin and Noni people do not come into DJOCCUL, the initiative will end up being controlled by non-Noni people. He made mention of key administrative positions in DJOCCUL that are occupied by people from other tribes. A case in point he said was the post of Chairman of the Promotion Committee; Dr. Richard who hails from Nkambe in Donga Mantung Division.

“This tendency is replicating itself in Douala and Yaounde”
he explained.
Considering that there’s the need for Djottin people to have
a leverage in the control of the affairs of DJOCCUL, Dr. Ndyun called on the
Djottin and Noni people at large to come on board.
“We should take advantage of the fact that DJOCCUL is
spreading it’s tentacles on the national territory and come on board. Invest in
the Djottin Cooperative Credit Union to change our story. Since it’s creation
in 1969 it was only three years ago that we decided to spread our tentacles on
the national territory and the growth has been miraculously rapid. We call on
Djottin people to invest in it and go into business. I understand that the
Djottin man is not naturally an entrepreneur but now, the credit union is there
to give us loans and follow up the execution of what ever thing we are doing. The
credit union has adopted the Ubuntu spirit. When you open an account in
Bamenda, you can save in Douala and in Yaounde. You can collect your money from
any where irrespective of where you safe your money. This makes it very easy
especially when you have a project back at home. It is transparent and very
fluid for business” Dr. Dyun explained.
