SDF Senatorial Campaign Launch

NW  Counselors Called To Take Historic Decision

In the build up to the March 13 Senatorial Elections, counselors of the North West Region have been called upon to take a historic decision to vote for the list of the Social Democratic Front SDF. This call was made during the launch of campaigns by the SDF in the North West Region for the upcoming Senatorial Elections slated for the 12th of March.

This call which is engraved in the Manifesto of the North West SDF list runs thus:

“…history is beckoning on the CPDM councilors as never before to ascertain this political historical responsibility. The March 12, 2023 Senatorial Election offers the Councilors of the region (CPDM) the historical opportunity to affect the much needed change our country needs irrespective of party discipline by voting the SDF list.”

This action, the Manifesto further states, will send a “strong and vibrating message” that will leave no one indifferent.

The SDF list head for the North West Region Vanighansen Mochiggle presented the Senate list to throngs of militants and media men who turned out for the event. He presented proposals made by the party to be implemented in the various councils. Fifteen percent of state budget he explained was supposed to be allocated to local councils and Regional Assemblies. This he said wasn’t being done. As a result, the SDF is advocating certain reforms that will improve upon the functioning of counselors to be carried out.

SDF as indicated in the Manifesto is advocating for the allocation of atleast one billion FCFA per council every fiscal year. The party is also advocating for monthly allowances and emoluments to municipal and Regional Councilors to permit them to effectively carry out their duties.

As stated on the Manifesto, convincing reasons to vote for the SDF Senatorial List in the North West Region include firstly, the positive balance sheet the outgoing senators have registered in the defense of the interests of the North West Region and their determination to do better. Secondly, experience already acquired in the running of the affairs of the Senate especially at this time marked by steps towards devolution of powers to the councils and Regional Assemblies. Thirdly, greater autonomy for the North West Region through effective devolution of powers and adequate content to Special Status. Fourthly, voting for the SDF list would mean voting for major institutional reforms that better meet the urgent needs of the Cameroonian people. Fifthly, a vote for the SDF Senatorial List will mean accepting to continue to advocate for genuine inclusive dialogue, respect for human rights and a lasting solution to the crisis rocking the South West and North West Regions.

Meantime, Lucas Ngu Afong, Deputy City Mayor to the Bamenda City Council said a lot of water had passed under the bridge since the party was launched adding that tough times required tough measures. Acknowledging that the SDF party was made up of good hunters he called on the party to rely first on the votes of SDF Counselors before going to hunt elsewhere. “We don’t constitute the majority of counselors but we will win” he said. The Senators proceeded to give an account of their mandate.

In a question and answer session Senator Ajuoh Ngam Honore from Boyo stressed that SDF Senators have been present in the field albeit quietly due to the prevailing security issues. Meantime Senator Kinyang George Nyang threw some light on the kind of funds that are given to Senators. He unequivocally stated that Senators do not have funds for micro projects. Senators he said are given what he referred to as intervention funds which they use following their discretion.

In a brush with the press Senator Kinyang George said the main challenge the party was facing with the onset of the campaigns was that of insecurity. “I think that this challenge has been put in place by the system to continue winning. If not because of the Security situation SDF would have been controlling the North West and South West Regions. They are benefitting from the security situation. With this situation the government makes use of the military and government officials. This is what happens during the Municipal and Legislative Elections.”

Senator Kinyang deplored the lack of electricity in Noni Subdivision and stated his determination to address the situation. “This is the top issue on my agenda. Our electorate in Bui should know that only the truth shall set us free. They should know that the Noni Subdivision has no electricity. They should also know that forty cartons of medical equipment were given to the Nkum Council and the Nkor-Noni Council at the Nkor Health Center.”

Senator Kinyang George further explained that in order to help the contractor of the Noni Electrification Project to execute the first phase of, he took a loan of 29 millions FCFA. The whole Electrification Project he intimated costs 870 million FCFA. “My counselors should know that this first phase has been started by me and I intend to take it to the end,” Senator Kinyang George Nyang explained.
