Excerpts:

…………..

What is the main idea behind the meeting of today?

……………

The main reason for this meeting is to raise funds to solve the problem of scarcity of drinking water in some parts of Din. Some Communities still depend on rivers and streams for water. This sometimes lead to the spread of water borne diseases especially among children. We feel that it is necessary to assemble resources and extend the water supply network to communities that have not yet had water. This water project started in 2009. We intended to have water by gravity but we found out that it was very expensive to get the equipment that could pump water from the streams to the hilltops. Knowing that water catchment areas are very scarce, we are trying to build more water storage tanks.

…………..

How are you solving the problem of the scarcity of water catchment areas in Din?

…………..

Stand Taps Needing Rehabilitation

We have tried to create an alliance with the Mbessa Community who have a lot of water catchment areas in their forests. They gave us a source which we have used and built a water reserve tank. The problem however is that during the dry season it is difficult to get water. We are therefore still negotiating with them to get more water sources from where we can tap water and keep in our storage tanks so that in the dry season we can still have a good quantity of water to supply to the communities. There’s reasonable progress but the main problem is that resources are coming in piece meal. That’s why since 2009 we are still struggling with water.

………..

Apart from water, are there other urgent projects?

………….

Yes. There are also other pressing projects which took precedence over water like electricity and we already have a trunk line cutting across from Tolon in Oku through Din, Ngai to Bamti.

…………

What message do you have for Noni People?

………….

The message I have for the Noni people is that of Unity, love and hard work. If we bring this spirit of unity in all development initiatives in Noni then Noni will develop really faster.

………..

We noticed that Nfon Nkwantè Noni was present at the fund raising event. What is your take on the Nfon Nkwantè initiative?

……………

The Nfon Nkwantè initiative is very wonderful. In the Noni culture NFons stay in the Palace. If they go out and stay for too long, they may even end up finding it difficult to get back to the palace. So in order to stretch their powers out of the village and in the Diaspora a Nfon Nkwantè has been empowered to take care of Noni in the Diaspora.

This fund raising occasion caught the attention of Noni people from all the villages. It is indeed a new era in Noni.

………….

Any Special Appeal?

…………..

I seize this opportunity to draw attention to the fact that Balu, Nganganghe community need a storage tank and an extension of the water to Ngeptang, Baa, Shiew and Febweh. The volume is large but there is no storage tank. That's the target DDA has this year.
